About Me

Margaret Adams is a working Artist and Art Teacher

I am a painter with a varied background. Currently I am enjoying painting with wax. I mix beeswax with oil paint  hardened with dammar resin. I often incorporate old metal I find in Mexico as well as gravel, pieces of scrap paper and anything else that creates a spark of interest. My work is usually abstract with a leaning to towards landscape.

Working with the children in Mexico I use acrylics on large pieces of paper or board. By working in a larger format the children are freed up exploring out of their comfort range in both colour and size. Many of the children have never used paint in this way before. It only takes a few minutes for them to find their style and focus. Without exception they are thrilled and excited with the results.

Contributions Received

We received $1500.00 from our friends and families which we spent on Tiles, cement, and grout. Then Tables, chairs, sink and plumbing fixtures. Later we were able to buy a microwave, blender and tableclothes.

Thanks to a generous donation from Lakewood Rotary in Washington State, who gave us a further $1,000, the parents voted to tile two more classrooms. Because the exchange rate is good right now we have enough money left to buy a fridge for the lunchroom.

Pencil Cases

This was a great success - unfortunately I forgot my camera - the children were excited and were busy trading colours and stickers with their classmates. One of our friends contributed a big box of pencils and felts and they happily chose more to load up their boxes. The next week we went back and gave sixteen more boxes to the primary grades. So altogether we gave thirty four boxes. I have some pictures of the primary school and will post them in the photo album. They were a littler more shy and reserved, but happily accepted more coloured pens when we handed them out.

Our visit the next week to the kindergarten was great. The children all had been given the day off so that their mothers could make their pinatas and get the class ready for their posada, Christmas Party, the next day. When the mothers heard we wanted to visit the kinder they rounded up all the kids and we were met with great shouts of Merry Christmas and Feliz Navidad. With our friends we gave out stickers, construction paper and of course coloured pens and pencils. Look for the pictures in the photo album.

Pencil Cases

WE ARE WAITING TO BE FILLED:

Thanks to our contributors – here are our first purchases – we bought 35 pencil cases and have received school supplies to get them started. Michael’s gave us 25% off when they heard our story.

We are still looking for donations, and school supplies, as unfortunately the warehouse option in Seattle did not work out (see below).

We will be leaving in two weeks and hope to have filled the boxes before we leave. Please talk to your friends and communities and help us finish our fund raising for this year.

As you know we hope to be able to set up a lunch room for this school and will buy these supplies in Mexico. If you would like to contribute later we will be able to receive money through email and deposit it to our Canadian bank and through the magic of technology be able to withdraw it in pesos when we are down there.

We will take lots of pictures and will update this blogsite regularly as I know you will be pleased to see the children's reponses.

School Supplies

Our contributions are at $650.00 with still a few more to come. I am hoping that people will pass on this information to their friends, social groups or churches. We really would like to make a difference if we can. Thanks again to those who have contributed.

Unfortunately ,the Seattle connection did not work out, so we are back to begging for school supplies. Please send or bring anything you think would help out, paints, paper, erasers, brushes etc...
